Countless research studies from the World Bank and United Nations to the World Economic Forum show that investments in women are directly correlated to a country’s greater prosperity, poverty alleviation and even deterring corruption.

When women succeed, everyone benefits. There is greater economic opportunity, equity and more constructive political participation leading to peace and stability in communities where women hold leadership positions. Women and girls –through this mentoring programme, gain access to greater networks, develop skills, and increase self-confidence. Mentors benefit by practicing and developing their counselling and listening skills, leading to greater self-development. Women must participate in conversations about how to shape the changes we want to see in Nigeria.

In 2008/2009, pilot mentoring walks were held in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Argentina, Peru, Serbia and Jordan.  The events were met with tremendous success and reached hundreds of women

Global Mentoring Walk

Walk to Inspire...

This series of events, “Global Women’s Mentoring Walks,” builds upon the success of mentoring walk events organized in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Argentina, Peru, Egypt, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Swaziland, Ecuador, Indonesia, Bolivia, El Salvador and Serbia in 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively.

The mentoring walks are a direct outcome of the FORTUNE/US State Department Global Women Leaders Mentoring Partnership in collaboration with Vital Voices Global Partnership and Idea Builders Initiative. 

The annual public-private partnership brings international businesswomen to the United States for training workshops, a series of meetings with high-level women leaders and a three-week mentorship with one of FORTUNE’s most powerful women executives.

Each walk is organized by women leaders locally and tailored to fit the particular needs of each locale.  In Nigeria the mentoring walk will include over 5,000 participants across five locations in Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Nassarawa, three locations in Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Oyo, Abia, Ogun and two locations in Akwa Ibom States.
