Idea Builders Initiative ex-cogitated a novel idea in which women who are established role models in their fields of endeavours are paired with upcoming and aspiring younger women to walk on a particular day. The idea is tagged the Mentoring Walk. As they walk, the women will engage in discussion regarding professional challenges and successes to establish a mentoring relationship in which guidance, instruction, advice and support is provided.

This will promote lasting mentoring relationships between emerging and established women leaders. Through these walks, a belief in the importance of women’s leadership and participation in society is demonstrated. In fostering these mentoring relationships, these walks also promote the values of mentoring in rising leaders who can give back to future generations and provide aspiring women professionals with the support and guidance they need to fulfill their goals.

Furthermore, by recognizing the importance of “paying it forward,” we are instilling the values of mentoring in rising leaders who can then give back to future generations. This demonstrates our belief in the importance of women’s leadership and participation in society and the transformative impact women have when they act in solidarity and raise their voices to promote positive change on a global scale.

In partnership with members from its Women Mentoring Network, Vital Idea Builders coordinates a series of mentoring walks annually in several locations across Nigeria. Each of the walks are held on the same day and organized by Idea Builders/Programme Partners as a means for women achievers to “pay it forward” or use their knowledge and experience to benefit others.

Mentoring walks are events in which established women leaders and rising women professionals convene and walk together in their community. As they walk, they engage in conversations regarding their challenges and successes, establishing a mentoring relationship to help rising women leaders achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

Since the inaugural Global Women’s Mentoring Walk in 2008 -with Idea Builders leading the charge, the initiative has reached thousands of women leaders in Africa, Eurasia, Latin America and the Middle East and North Africa. Together, the mentoring walk events illustrate women’s dedication to building leadership globally and spotlight the accomplishments of women across the world.
 
The mentoring walk will be holding nationwide on the 17th of November 2012
